GPSC released 496 vacancies for Class 1, Class 2, and specialist positions this year, one of the biggest recruitment processes in recent times. Time is short, though, with 17 February 2025 being the last date for application. Whether you’re searching for administrative positions or technical positions, it is worth keeping in mind the syllabus and the exam pattern in order to crack it.
Detailed GPSC Exam Syllabus and Subjects
To make the preparation easier, GPSC has devised a uniform General Studies (GS) syllabus for preliminary examinations. That means whether you are preparing for any given post, the GS paper in the prelims will cover the following:
- History, Art & Culture
- Indian Constitution, Economics, and Geography
- Science, Technology, and Current Affairs
In the mains exam, the candidates can anticipate more in-depth treatment, particularly in areas such as ethics and public administration. Surprisingly, mathematics has been excluded in the mains syllabus. Further, candidates appearing for engineering or medical posts will have to go through subject-based papers in addition to the general studies sections.
Understanding the GPSC 2025 Exam Pattern
The GPSC examination process is split into three various stages:
- Preliminary Test (400 marks): This consists of two General Studies papers with each containing 200 multiple-choice questions. The candidates should be careful of the 1/3 negative marking for incorrect answers.
- Descriptive Main Examination: It comprises Gujarati language and English language papers, an essay paper, and three General Studies papers. All the papers are designed to assess the candidate’s analytical ability as well as the level of his/her understanding.
- Interview (100 marks): The final stage checks the personality of the candidate, his/her communication skills, and general suitability for administrative posts.
